Handcrafted timber furniture inspired by Penang’s coastal calm and Malaysia’s timber legacy.
From Kayu Balak to Timeless Designs Furniture Stories
Who We Are
Founded by a group of woodcraft enthusiasts in Penang, Furnicrat started as a small workshop where master carpenters and young designers collaborate to create furniture that carries both warmth and purpose. Every piece originates from a story; a fallen slab, a reclaimed beam, a family dinner. It all translated into something functional and beautiful for Malaysian homes.

Why Kayu Balak Matters
Our Materials
Most of our signature pieces feature Kayu Balak—large, solid timber slabs prized for distinctive grain, strength, and natural edge character. Where Kayu Balak is not used, selected hardwoods (teak, walnut alternatives) are employed, always with provenance checks and finishing that enhances the wood’s own voice. Natural resin seams, hand-sanded surfaces and food-safe finishes make each workpiece a tactile experience.
Craft & Process
Skilled hands handle every stage: from timber selection, kiln-drying and defect-routing to traditional joinery and final finishing. Techniques combine tukang kayu (traditional joinery) know-how with CNC precision for repeatable quality. So a bespoke table feels handcrafted, consistent and built to last. Photographs of the workshop, process timeline, and short film clips help buyers see the craft in action.

Roots in Penang & Malaysian Heritage
Penang’s cultural mix and seaside light influence our palette and forms. Design cues borrow from local architecture, kampung crafts, and Malay wood-carving motifs in subtle, contemporary ways. Local partnerships such as small sawmills, reclamation projects, and community skill programs, help ensure production benefits the region.
Sustainability & Ethics
Sourcing matters. We prioritise legally-sourced timber and reclaimed Kayu Balak where possible. Waste is minimised via offcut reuse and donated shavings for community projects. Finishes use low-VOC, eco-friendly products. Each piece ships with a certificate: origin details, wood species, and care instructions.
